Hi all,

I'm curious, is there a place I can find a list of all skills that must be demonstrated (in the pool during training and in open water during certification dives) to obtain an open water certification.

Thanks

PADI or SSI

Thanks...

I got my OW with PADI:

I was trained all skills in the pool and had to demonstrate them in open water (except for the surface swim).

- 20min surface swim
- Equipment training
- Partial/full mask flooding
- Mask removal/replacement
- Regulator removal/replacement
- Octo breathe
- Buddy breathe
- Reg sharing
- Basic diving sign language
- Controlled emergency safety ascent (CESA)
- Fin pivots
- Hovering
- Undo BC
- Tired diver tow
- Entry and exit methods

Before each of the confined dives, you'll have to pass a small exam and a 50-question exam as final exam.

Hmmm... I guess that's it. Hope this helps.

There is a list of those requirements for PADI, NAUI & YMCA in this comparison. SSI is not included, a set of SSI standards was posted on this board, but I haven't yet located them in my search.

You may have left out some and your instructor may have asked you to do some not required or not required to be evaluated in a particular portion of the course. As a student, you rarely know what is being asked of you because the instructor thinks it's a good idea and what the agency actually requires. You don't see the standards.

I would assume you are in the process of taking your basic O/W class. All the requirements for your certification are listed in the book. Certainly requirements will vary per training agency and date of the books you are using. Your LDS or Instructor should be able to show you where to find the items you seek. This is the only way to determine what you will need to do. Other lists on the net, etc. may not represent what you will need to perform.

Get with your instructor and shop and they should walk you through what it will take to get your certification.

Good luck!!:)

Thanks everyone.

Mark
