I have been looking into a few LDS and found that one of them offers a certification that I am not familar with nor have I even heard of it. I was wondering if anybody on the board has heard of SDI (Scuba Diving International) and/or TDI (Technical Diving International). The website for this LDS says it is one of 11 shops internationally that is a "PDC" (Professional Development Center). Any advice or experience with either of these certifications? Would there be any problem having a dive operator or shop recognize this certification? Thanks for any help.

SDI and TDI are known in this area. In fact I'm hoping to take my SDI solo course from one in the area. You should have no trouble getting any operator to recognize these certs. They are basically the same organization but TDI deals with the more technical disciplines such as extended range, deco, and they offer advanced nitrox and a gas blender course. Of course like any agency a course is only as good as the instructor teaching it. Ask questions, it's ok to ask for and check references also. And do a yahoo search for sdi or tdi.
