I was NAUI certified around 1963 in Santa Monica, CA. I need a replacement Certification card. NAUI says they only have records from 1970 to present. Does anyone know if Dave Joss is still around or if maybe YMCA would keep any records?

The YMCA Scuba Program was shut down in 2008. All of the Y records were transferred to SEI a little after that. SEI has since been sold and I don't know if the records were transferred. Even if they were, since you were issued a NAUI card, they would have no record of that. If you had a YMCA cert it's possible a record exists.

62 years is a long time for storing records, NAUI's 1970 records are better than PADI's which go back to 1984 or thereabouts. Early records are especially problematic as C-cards did not have photos back in 1963, plus the fact that none of us even approximately resemble the person depicted six decades ago. My suggestion is to get re-certified, if you have a log book, it may help you in getting a discount from a NAUI instructor / shop.

David Joss is still listed on NAUI's website:

NAUI instructor number 602, current location Redding, CA
