German Yanez would be an excellent choice.
Agreed, German is very safe and professional. He teamed up with Chuck Jones (then the regional safety officer IIRC) to do me and a freind's certs, from cavern through full cave, back around '96 or so. Many of the dives we did were in Aerolito.
German ever tell you about the time he and Chuck (and maybe one or two others) were arrested for diving the ratty little cenote back on (I think it was) 65th ? They were there as some sort of authorized artifact preservation endeavor, with official paperwok from some museum or historical agency (I forget exactly), to remove a bunch of crumbling Mayan stuff from the system (stuff that we'd been handing only a day earlier!).
A bunch of Federalis showed up, and hauled them off to jail, where they stayed for about a week, and we were worried we might get picked up too, having been diving in the same cenote, only the day before !!
It was a real big stink, and was big news in the local dive community. When they finally got out, after their paperwork checked out (exactly like itdid on day 1), they were
highly stressed out about the whole ordeal, and I don't think they got so much as an apology! If I'm recalling correctly, German said he started smoking cigarrettes again,LOL!
Those who do generally don't publicise the site information.....
Yeah, we ran into that ourselves years ago, trying to get some intel on the system. Most everyone that did any mapping, played that card real close to their chest! We got some info from German and Chuck, and maybe a couple others, but we pretty much explored a lot of it ourselves, figuring it out as we went.
After a while, we didn't waste any more time on Wonderland or Turtle Pass, and went straight to the area called Road To Chankanaab, trying to connect Aerolito to Que Brada (I think it was called), the little cenote (mud hole) inland from Chankanaab Park.
Come to think of it, about the same time frame, Chuck and some divers were at the QB cenote, and were basically kidnapped by Chankanaab security, who hauled them in front of the big boss of Chankanaab, who told them point blank to stay the hell out of Que Brada, because "it's
our cenote!!")
