Do any of the main US cell phone companies have service that works on Roatan? (using the same phone)?

I know Sprint does if you have the international plan. You may need to stand in just the right place and not move, but it does work. I don't know about the others.

Cingular w/ a quad band phone works to the best of my knowledge.

Are you saying you bought the phone there on Roatan, or you bought it before you went there and could use it? Who did you purchase it from? I'm staying at the Inn of Last Resort, so would be not far from West End FWIW.

I was on utila and Shirley went and picked up a phone with minutes for me and I use it every time I'm down there now. Due to business reasons, I need to keep in touch with an employee and family feels better having a phone # by which to contact me ....
since I travel alone.

The local phone works just fine, just have to add minutes, and it's all in spanish...but I just ask someone to load the minutes in for me....and yes, they work well no issues with calling the states or anywhere for that matter

This way, I can stay in touch w/ work and keep the family happy while I'm off enjoying myself

Doesn't the phone require you to talk in Spanish too? :D

Smarty pants! No....thank goodness

I looked into those international plans w/ the cell phone companies, many of them don't cover honduras, let alone the bay islands, if it works on the mainland it may not work on the islands....and just buying a local phone was a much much cheaper way to do it then using my USA cell phone.

that's a pretty good idea... may consider that for the two weeks I'm down there.
