Hoping to travel to Borneo in 2010. Does anyone have any recent experience on Celebes Explorer? Generally prefer LOB experience (more diving). Also, can anyone recommend best time of year to travel to Borneo, or when to avoid Borneo? When exactly is monsoon season for example. All help appreciated. Thank you. NAT

Hi Nat,

MV Celebes Explorer offers more opportunites to dive Sipadan - and who would say no to that?. If you prefer the liveaboard stay to the resort experience and are not looking for five star accomodations then MV Celebes Explorer is an excellent choice.

Have a look at our trip report from last month - trip report MV Celebes Explorer

Generally, the rainy season is between January and March but not so predictable anymore - the best months are considered to be between April and December.

Thank you so much!!

Hi Nat, the 'Dry Season' in Sabah is from April to October. Generally the diving conditions are meant to be vest during this period. Based on personal experience I've found mid March - end June fantastic diving conditions (on the west coast where there is surprisingly some great dive sites) as the sea state / weather has been great during this period (for diving trips) for the past two years. From July - September the weather can be a little bit unpredictable (we can get rougher sea state in Sabah if there is a Tropical Storm in the Philippines area) but you can still have some enjoy some nice diving during this period around the Sipadan area and from Kota Kinabalu (if you go to the right dive sites). Hope this helps.
