I am not really good with the computer but I am interested in trying this for my A570.

Does anyone know if this allows the use of a live histogram for the A570 once it has been hacked? If so what do I need to do it? cardreader?

Just keep in mind the first thing I stated in this post. I need the "CDHK for dummies" version please.

Thanks
Sean

I don't know about the A570, but for the G7 + hack, the standard live histogram still works and you get a larger hsitrogram with additional options like color and highlight clipping indicators if you want. I assume the same would apply for the A570. As for a card reader, that is how I put the firmware onto my card. I bought a USB card reader at Radio Shack; it cost about $15. As for how to get it all up and running, I would suggest using the directions on this site: FAQ - CHDK Wiki. Keep in mind that it may take some effort on your part, but the rewards are great. After all, it is free and is "hacked", so there isn't customer support available. Also, I have found that some of the challenge also comes from figuring out how to process the raw files. For example, some of the free software didn't work well for the G7, so I ended up needing photoshop. But the good news for you is that I think some of the free software may work better for A570 users. The take home message: be prepared to put some time in and employ the method of "trial and error" to figure out the new firmaware and your eventual workflow from raw files to final product. I have found the process to be both time consuming and educational. Good luck!

Haven't looked @ this thread in a while, but here's a little discussion I saved on the 570 & hacking from earlier, may be the same above link(read down a few posts in the link)...........

A more specific question about the A570 for those of you who have hacked it:

Under the manufacturers settings on the firmware you cannot get a live histogram while taking photos, can you do so after hacking it?

Here's the stickied thread if you haven't read it already:

It's pretty dumbed down in there.

The link Teerlkay posted is vital: CHDK - CHDK Wiki

The CDHK is available for the 570. But the camera's firmware must be 1.00e or 1.01a. Once you're sure of that, I recommend the allbest hack since it contains the most used functions. Including the live histogram and zebra mode (highlights which areas are too over exposed). However, the faq doesn't include your camera as being a supported camera, but, someone posted a thread in the subforum regarding the 570 so maybe the hack will work. If it doesn't, just choose another one.

Hope that helps.
