I am an advanced OW diver and am planning to take my diving further, eventually aiming to become an instructor. I have been in touch with and visited Aquaworld in Cancun to work towards this goal and was wondering if there was anyone out there who has already been down this road.... anyone??
I was very impressed by the size and professionalism of the complex and the enthusiasm of the staff and instructors I met. Unfortunately weather conditions meant I couldn't dive but plan to return and attend the career development centre in the near future.
Could anyone give me an opinion of their own experiences with Aquaworld? Any input is gratefully received

thanks
Alex

i dove with aquaworld april 5, 2004 and will never do so again. i was in cancun to get married so i was unable to bring my own gear. after asking them twice before we left on the boat, they still didnt have a bc to fit me. i also told them before we left i needed 30 pounds of lead, which after threading 2 belts together and robbing weight from others i had enough to get down. i fought the water the whole time trying to stay down. we arrived at the first dive site and they told us to stand on the back of the boat, they started throwing any bc on your back and told you to jump in. my wife had trouble going down and they tried to make her get back in the boat. they were unsuccessful at that. i made them give her more weight in the water. after we descended we swam around a coral formation and swam back to the anchor line. i was in the water 23 minutes and still had 1700 psi in my tank.
well enough ranting. i will never use them again.

Thanks for the info guys. So far all the info I've received from other divers about Aquaworld has been negative which is not a good sign! I am going to try and find what else is out there......
thanks again

Alex,

AquaWorld certifies over 5000 divers per year, takes 25,000 resort divers pre year, has the worlds most successful Cavern dive tour, takes close to ten thousand divers a year on a Cozumel day trip.

Aquaworld is the most professional dive store in Mexico, hence their CDC rating. Yes they are capable of volume, if you are looking for career training, you wont find it at manta divers or scuba canun, the managers of those dive stores took their training at Aquaworld.

You need to listen to people that have taken training there, and ignore horror stories of people that have a bad dive due to poor bouyancy control.

Good job for checking things out though.

Don't use Manta, I got ripped off by them for a dive that got cancelled due to the port closing. Had to dispute the charge on my card

Personally I have three great experiences with Aquaworld. That is not as important however as the exposure a shop can offer. At Aquaworld you are pretty much assured a steady stream of students.Suggest you interview the actual individuals you will be training with

Just out of curiosity, do you now or have you ever had a working relationship with Aquaworld?

Thanks.

I am not sure the relavence of that Doc, I am trying to give Alex some good advice.

The answer is YES, that is why I feel qualified to comment and found it important to differentiate between Instructor Development and someone that had a bad dive because of poor bouyancy control there.

Alex wasnt asking if anyone had had a great (or bad) dive experience with Aquaworld, he was asking if anyone knew anything about their professional development programs.

I know that Aquaworld has over 500 instructor certifications at its CDC, is the only CDC in Mexico, and was the first CDC in Latin America and the Caribbean.

That has to count for something.

Alex, you need to talk to one of the 500 people that know what they are taling about.

That information may assist readers in weighing your objectivity & impartiality in promoting Aquaworld.

Thank you,

DocVikingo
