Just got Brac last night. We were up in the air when the earthquake hit. Very little damage on GC. A friend was at Sunset House and felt nothing. We had to circle a bit over GC while they checked the runway for damage and there was none. Had to sit on the plane on the tarmac for another 25 minutes or so as they had evacuated the airport. Everything is fine on GC. Craig at Indepth on the Brac told me he felt a little rocking and a few CDs fell off a shelf at his place.

Just a few quick observations from the Brac...Brac Reef is open and functioning, many houses and condos are available right now for rent and airfare was rather inexpensive. The people of the Brac need some help from the dive community, things are still slow down there, but we need to get out butts on the Brac and spread around some $$$. The diving was first rate. Craig, Ginger and Jevan are a blast to dive with, and the Peaceful Warrior is a fantastic dive boat. I am going Brac two more times in the next six months, but they need to see more divers on the island. The Brac is truly a divers paradise.

Just a word for every diver out there...if you feel any numbness or tingling DO NOT take it lightly. One of our party had some discomfort Friday after our dives and by Saturday am I was rushing him to the hospital. They airlifted him to GC early afternoon. Unfortunately, the techs on the Brac were on GC for training. Long story short...5 hours in the chamber Saturday and 2.5 on Sunday. He is fine now, but can't leave GC until tomorrow. He has been sitting at the bar at Sunset House and is bored stiff. Any locals with some time drop by and ask for Brett. Make him buy you a drink or two. He can fill you in on what happened. The dive profile was fine and the Dr. said it had more to do with his back surgery a few years ago than anything else.

In conclusion...Dive the Brac and DO NOT take your health or any warning signs for granted. Brett missed three days of diving, but he is still around to dive again, and again, and again.

My husband and I were in the water diving when the quake struck. It was ridiculously loud and our eardrums and chests totally vibrated with the rumbling, which was rather like really loud thunder or standing next to a freight train. The school of fish we were in darted away as it started. Well, I guess that's a new one for the log book! Had a blast and will try to get a trip report out in a few days.

Chibracdiver, glad to hear your friend is okay.

Few people will have that story to tell, what an experience. My most interesting dive experience was when we were on a liveaboard the Star Dancer and had a lightning storm roll over us, the flashes underwater were very negligible and strange.

Little Cayman only made a pact with a lesser-demon, since the French were not involved at all.
Hey, I heard that !!! :devious:

(sorry for the hijack)
