I'm heading down to Grand Cayman soon (3/28-4/3) and will be staying at the Hyatt on 7 mile. Anyone have any favorite dive operators on the west end, or those that they'd avoid? I'm looking at Off the Wall, Wall to Wall, and Red Baron, but would consider other recommendations as well.

Also - is anyone else going to be there during those days and would you like to join up? My wife is a non-diver and I'd like to avoid the dreaded randomly-assigned-diveboat-buddy when possible. :)

I was in Grand Caymen in October 2003. I dove with Divetech. I think they are the best operator on the island. Just my opinion... I would stay away from Red Sail. I didn't have a good experience with them in Aruba and I know someone who didn't have a good experience with them in Hawaii.

And the experience wasn't all that bad. Their Rum Point boat was actually very good, but their main west wall boats were the big boxcars, I mean, pontoons that take LOTS of people. That's what I'm looking to avoid by going with one of the smaller operators.

I'll be there april 16 to 25 and plan to use walltowall. their phiosophy seems to be the same as mine.

small groups, longer surface interval, more dives.

Dont' forget to do a search on the board, also. Lots of great info!
... and don't forget Neptune's Divers! :) 8 Divers Max!

I'll reiterate some recent advice... plan your diving soon! This is Spring Break season in the islands and reservations are pouring in. If you don't make some decisions soon, you may have difficulty getting your first choice of dive operator and/or dive sites.

It was 3 years ago but my wife and I did our open water check out dives with Red Sail. They are a little bit expensive but they are right at the Hyatt. I had nothing to compare them to at the time but they were really great. The boats are fast clean and big. The most important part to me is my wife had a hard time equalizing. Yeap she was the one in the group. One of the instrusctors took his time to get her equalized. He said things like relax take your time I am right here and it was enought to get her to relax and equalize. It turned out to be a great time.

I don't think one's experience with Red Sail whould have any bearing on what to expect with Red Sail on Grand Cayman. I did my IDC with one of the instructors at Red Sail (Angela) and shared "student housing" for two weeks with another instructor there (Ash). In my opinion, both were top notch. And listening to them talk about the inner workings of Red Sail at the Hyatt convinced me there is a strong commitment to quality there. I think they may be a bit more expensive than say Don Foster's, but I also believe the service is more personalized.
