I just got off the phone with Karl Huggins. The Chamber is fine since the fire is nowhere near them but it’s still having an effect.

They have no power, no phone service, and no cell phone service. (Karl had to call me on a satellite phone.) They have a back-up generator and they have radio power. They are also concerned that if the winds shift and there’s any kind of an evacuation ordered, they’ll need to send their volunteers off-island which will cause staffing problems.

So the bottom line is that while the Chamber is not off-line, it may be very limited in what it can do this weekend. So if you’re going diving Saturday or Sunday, regardless of where you are, be a bit extra careful as emergency resources may be somewhat limited.
