Just a heads up for anyone who goes to Casino Point. I was diving there last Sunday and after surfacing from a night dive we discovered that someone had gone through all of our gear (which we had put inside one of the door ways in the Casino since it was starting to rain slightly). They had taken a backpack of mine with all my dry clothes, my logbook, and a few dollars. I later walked around the Casino and found my backpack, they had gone through it, taking only the money.

Bottom line-if you are diving, leave your bags in the open. I don't think they would have had the opportunity to go through the gear if it was in the open.

That's really disappointing. We have done many, many dives in the marine park at Casino Point and have never had anything taken or messed with. Did you report the theft to the police? Avalon's a pretty small place and word travels pretty fast. Rule number one for the locals is don't mess with the tourists as their money is the life's blood for the island.

It sad that you have to use em, but its unfortunately worth the 75 cents.

I wouldn't consider gear safe in the open either. When I was out there last month, my buddy and I witnessed a few passers-by digging in some gear bags left by the stairs on a friday night. We watched closely, but nothing was taken. We used the lockers.

The following day we used lockers again. With the abundance of divers and gear, it may be okay to leave stuff in the open during a weekend day - The whole "Honesty through paranoia" concept. That and I've come to expect some degree of mutual respect from my fellow divers.

My thought on this is that they put the lockers there for a reason (beyond taking our precious quarters), and I never leave anything I can't afford to lose out and laying around.

The night we dove, there was a little party going on out there. Loud music, drinking, and everything else. Saw alot of younger faces and youthful attitudes out there too. Not that there is anything wrong with a party - just remember to consider the company and the circumstances before you slip beneath the surface... ;)

There are lockers at the point you can use.

Yes, I was using a locker for all the rest of my money and valuables. But I didn't want to spend $0.75 to lock the 4 bucks I had after eating lunch. Lesson learned.......

Seriously though. Its too bad that stuff happens. It would also be a shame if someone was caught in the act.

My guess is that if you and others file enough complaints, Avalon will make sure the problem goes away.
