A friend of mine has a good friend who lives in Curacao. She was wanting to send her a check for an engagement gift. How hard is it to cash a check written in US dollars in Curacao? Or could she do something like a visa gift card without to big of fees?

[-]PayPal is the best way, IMO.

I think a check would be about impossible.[/-]

Oops wrong again. Thanks Sunshine.

Banking is one of the biggest industries on the island. If your friend has a checking or savings account they can deposit the check in one of our numerous banks and the funds would be available in (?) a week (?) 10 days (?). I've gotten checks from our apartment guests and always deposited them not needing the money immediately so I never looked at the actual clearing date. PayPal would work if your friend has a PayPal debit card. As of now, Curacao is not on the Pay Pal bank list.
