Ponte Vedra man reported dead after diving near wreck 30 miles off of Mayport, Coast Guard says

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Ponte Vedra Beach man died Monday after authorities said he was diving about 30 miles off of Mayport.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard, 22-year-old Nick Fox was found unconscious and unresponsive around 12:27 p.m. He was pronounced dead when he was transferred to land.
The call came from the vicinity of the Casablanca deepwater wreck, according to U.S. Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville Public Affairs Specialist Jamie Emery.

The Coast Guard deployed a boat from Mayport and a helicopter from Savannah, Emery said.
Fox's obituary states he graduated from Fletcher High School in 2021 and attended the University of North Florida. The obituary said Fox was "due to graduate in May with a major in business."
It describes him as spear-fisher and snowboarder, and stated his "laughter, kindness, and zeal for life will forever be remembered."
