Nope... occasionally they will ask to re-run the bag or hand examine it. Usually once I say "It's scuba gear..." it sails through just fine. Only had one issue in Pensacola but that was due to carry-on limits being very strictly enforced -- eg. 1 bag only... period. So ended up putting my regulator in my small suitcase.

I never have a problem with carryons except when returning from the Caribbean. Everything gets hand searched, sometimes several times.

I carry on all of my photo gear, regs, and computers. About 70 lbs worth of gear. I had the folks in Antigua remove every piece of equipment, unwrap every lens, check every single thing in my carryon. After it had been x-rayed and hand-checked once before.

Within the US, my only issue with the TSA is that they keep stealing my lighters from my checked baggage. There was a special allowance by the TSA for Zippos in airtight containers. But several disappeared without there being a TSA notice in my luggage that it was searched.

Regs ... never ... they did get a little suspicious of the battery for my dive light, however. Might have something to do with the fact that it looks like five sticks of dynamite taped together with a couple of wires sticking out ... :11:

They get curious about double hose regulators too.

They were curious about my scooter and extra battery but all passed no problem.

2 weeks ago on my way to Bonaire TSA pulled them out of my carry on but, as soon as they visually verified what they were the TSA guy said to have a good trip.

Only thing that caused me grief was my home-built underwater housing (see pix in gallery). On x-ray, the thing looks like a pipe bomb, complete with batteries, wires, switches, etc...
I soon found myself standing in the "phone booth" with my pockets turned out, shoeless, and watching them go over my housing with one of their "magic wands" while a machine puffed and sniffed me.

Other than that, everything went just fine.

Try an HID canned light or two for that matter in a hard pelican case. Talk about a bomb going through X-Ray. We always carry on the lights just cause we have them packed a certain way. Never fails, always pulled asided and swabbed and questioned.
