Any divers from the Carlisle Area on the Board? Need to find a local dive bud.

I was born near Carlisle so technically I'm from the Carlisle area... probably not what you meant, is it?

Not really, I am actually looking for someone still living in this area that dives. I was at Fuller lake yesterday and it looks like a nice place to dive, if I had a buddy to dive it with.

I'm not sure but I think Bainbridge has a dive club. You're about 45 minutes from there, right? Have you tried talking to the shops in your area about different clubs? Someone once told me it would be easier to find a buddy if I moved to FL, that's might alos be an opition. :D

There are two yahoogroups I am in that can probably help you.

AtlanticDiver-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

dc-scuba-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

I'd also ask at local shops about clubs and buddies.

The Brass Anchor in Frederick, Maryland is a very active shop.
There was a small shop at Raystown Lake when I was there back in 1988.

Is Bainbridge still open? I haven't heard much about it for a while.

Don Burke once bubbled...

Is Bainbridge still open? I haven't heard much about it for a while.

Yep, Bainbridge is still open. More importantly the water is way up from last year. They have pictures on the website showing the difference in water level. It's pretty dramatic.

I have been to Bainbridge its a nice place but still an Hr away, although it about the closest place to me to get air. I dont mind going, but I dont want to dive there every time. Thanks for the links

A lot of people would kill to have a divesite within an hour. :)

As long as I have some PA folks on the line, I might as well ask a few questions.

Is Raystown still active?

Where is Fuller Lake?

Dont know about Raytown, I just moved here in July. Fuller Lake is a state area south of Mt Holly, an Old Quarry, water looks very clear compared to a lot of what I have seen here. DNR told me that it was 90 ft deep with some old railroad tracks somewhere. I would not know about it but was task to supervise a group hiking though there and I seen it.

The deepest hole that I've found at Fuller Lake is about 50-couple feet. It's been about 3 years since I've dove there... The mine entrance goes much deeper, but the last thing that I've heard is that it's all silted in :( There's a gentle slope from the beach area and then it just drops straight down. Sometimes you can find nice stuff (trash), and one year someone from our group found a hand gun that belonged to some guy in South Carolina who used it to commit a crime in Virginia.

I'm right down the road from you in Mechanicsburg, so if you want to go diving sometime, feel free to PM me. I usually dive at Wabank Aqua in Lancaster - about an hour drive, but the vis is usually the best in the area. I'd love to dive at Fuller Lake sometime again. Let me know.
