I too am one of those divers with a non-diving spouse. Interested in doing a liveaboard dive vacation on my own and am wondering if I'll be "the lonely guy" if I go on one of these trips.

Are they mostly couples?

Will I be a social outcast?

:-)

Interested in doing a liveaboard dive vacation on my own and am wondering if I'll be "the lonely guy" if I go on one of these trips. As a single diver, I find liveaboards a great way to make sure I have a "buddy". If I don't meet someone with whom I am interested in diving, I can ask for one of the divemasters that work on the boat to dive with me. So far I've been fortunate to meet some really great people and wind up being long term friends with them

Are they mostly couples? It changes from week to week. If you are concerned about there being other "single" divers on the boat, I would suggest that you call the office of the operation you are planning to go with and ask them the demographic makeup of the week you are considering

Will I be a social outcast?Only if you are a social outcast on land :D

:-)

Happy Diving! Pam

I did Blackbeards in the end of Feb 06. The boat had mixed singles and couples, or people and general friends. I went solo and I did not feel that I was left out of anything becasue you are all on the boat with something in common. I amde many new friends on the boat.

Liveaboards are definitely a wonderful way to go as a solo. Always someone to buddy up with (sometimes a buddy threesome, but it works with this type of diving). No social stigma at all, and often not a bad single supplement (especially if you're willing to accept a roomie).

We were just on the Nekton for a week last month and there were mostly couples BUT there were 4 guys who came as singles. They buddied up together for the week and all went well for them. Also with the group on the boat for the week, everyone was fast friends from Day 1 and anyone could tag along with anyone else as needed. I skipped a few of the night dives and my hubby just buddied up with whoever else was going in..... never ever an issue! Everyone got along and because of that, it was a perfect atmosphere for a single diver.

I'm a long-time liveaboard solo diver. No problem. I've buddied with other solos, or with one of the DM's or joined a couple. Aggressor Fleet is the best world wide liveaboard in every respect. Great accommodations, food, amenities, and up to 26+ dives for the week. You wil never regret a trip with them.

If you'll call them I think they will try to match you up with another single diver.

We meet a couple of guy's on the Nekton Belize last year that were matched up that way.

Ditto on the Cayman Aggressor. I was a single on their boat in June. I loosely teamed
with a married couple for most dives. I never had a problem latching onto someone
when I needed a partner.

I am a single diver that will be doing my first live aboard trip on Blackbeard's in Sept. I have been told be multiple scources that I should have absolutely no problems finding a buddy or group to dive with. I have also been told that the Blackbeard's cruises are very footloose & fancy free in atmosphere, which even though I'm usually a very quiet & reserved person, is what I was looking for in a live aboard for a change of pace. I was primarily looking for a lot of fun & all the diving I can smile at!:D
