Anyone using the NX2 software?

What do you think about it and can anyone campare it to an older version of Photoshop? say Photoshop 7

It is designed to work with the Nikon camera line in raw and it does a great job. There are plenty of reviews available online. I just wish I could refind the copy that came with my D300, so I could install it on my laptop.

I don't think Photoshop 7 will do raw. It certainly won't do raw for recent
cameras (Adobe doesn't upgrade old Photoshop version for new raw formats).

In the Adobe line, I'd compare Ligthtroom to Capture NX.

You can download a 30-day free trial of Lightroom and of Capture NX.
Why not just give it a try.

Capture NX2 is the most powerful tool you can use if you don't want to use layers.

I use both ViewNX and Capture NX 2.

I find ViewNX the most useful for all quick adjustments such as exposure compenstion, picture control, D-Lighting etc. I only go to Capture NX for things like getting rid of a bit a annoying back scatter, cropping, straightening and other more sophisticated adjustments. The Auto Retouch Brush is very good, a bit like the clone stamp in Photoshop but esier to use.
I try to avoid using Capture NX unless I really have to because once you have adjusted a photo in Capture NX you can no longer use the ViewNX Convert Files facility to do your jpgs.

Capture NX 2 is not in the same league as Photoshop but if you are a purest and believe in the minimum messing with the original photo, then it is OK for those minor corrections.

Cheers
