Hi,

I am planning a trip to Bonaire the first week of April. Trying to decide on places to stay and am thinking about Captain Dons. Was there 10 years ago and loved it. Any recent experiences to share? I have heard about their construction and am a little concerned about the shape of the resort.

Also, what are your top three shore dives you would recommend on the island and top three boat dives?

Thanks

Brian

We were there for pizza a few weeks ago. I didn't see any obvious construction while walking through the place. Smokin pizza too.

Our favorite dives were probably Angel City & the Hilma Hooker. We saw eagle rays, turtles & huge tarpon.

Overall, I'd say the diving was far better than what we saw in Cozumel and Roatan, which are the other two Caribbean destinations we've been to, but some of the dives are a bit busted up due to the tropical storm last year.

Reefduffer,
I read the trip report you referenced and will probably read it several times as it is full of excellent information and detail. But, more importantly, it is very entertaining! Please continue diving and writing about your travels. I will look forward to your future postings!

Can't say about Captain Don's as we've never stayed there. Next door at Buddy and at Den Lamen, although we had a really nice dinner at Dons 2 years back, and the grounds looked pretty ship shape then.

Just returned form trip to Bonaire this Jan, and some of our favorite sites suffered in the tropical storm this last fall. Exposed sites like Oil Slick got hit hard and will take some time to recover. Alice in Wonderland was a good dive, Windsock Resort was great site, and Bari in front of Dons and Buddy was as great a site as it aways is. Did quite a few dives there, both day and night.

Thanks for the detailed report. Sounds great!

I keep trying to talk my dive buddies into going to Bonaire, but they can never swing a full week. The flights there from MI take a full day of travel with odd arrival times.

Someday!

PH
