It's time to dive. We are bringing groups from Alabama and Minesota diving with Discovery Diving off of Cape Lookout from 7/10-7/14. We are really looking forward to the trip. We have 12 divers lined up so far. Where are some good places to eat? What types of things is there to do if we get blown out for a dive or two?

What is the can't miss dive? We definitely want to diive the U-352, Carib Sea, and Papoose.

Go check out ncdivers.com there are a bunch of knowledgable divers over there. Even though I am from NC I go out of Myrtle Beach most of the time.

There are great places to eat within walking distance of Discovery. Front street is full of nice restaurants ranging from semi-pricey to real pricey. Fins is a nice place for lunch or an early dinner on the semi-pricey side. Spouter Inn or Ribeyes make for a decent higher end meal. Avoid the Dockhouse for food (but a good place to go trolling at night for the younger crowd:wink: . Clawsons is good and the Beaufort Grocery is excellent. I can't speak for the other side of the drawbridge but I hear Morehead has some decent places also. (I'm a biased Beaufort resident:wink: )

As for options if you get blown out... again, lots to do in Beaufort:
--If the tide is right, do a shore dive on Radio Island
--Maritime Museum -- free and very interesting
--Maritime Museum Boat House (build your own wooden boat)
--Core Sound Museum on Harkers Island -- free and interesting as well
--Ferry ride to Shackleford banks or Cape Lookout/Core Banks -- spend the day at the "real" beach and see some wild horses or the lighthouse
--Water front tours on one of the sightseeing boats (or a smaller boat with just your group ie. Flat Out Tours from DDC and do some fishing)-- see Taylors Creek, Carrot Island (wild horses again) the MHC waterfront and probally some dolphins.
--Go to the beach on Atlantic Beach

There's much more to do but lets just hope this is a moot discussion, right:D

Good Luck and let me know if I can answer any more questions... Check your PM DiverAl

I hope you guys have a great trip. I put this page together a couple of seasons ago and some of it might be out of date (like the aquarium will be open when you visit) but it should be a good starting point.

Hey guys thanks for all great information we appreciate it. I checked with Discovery and there are six spaces available if anyone wants to join us. We are really looking forward to it. I last dove further North off of Cape Hatteras in 1988 or 1989 when I was in the Navy. We dove the U-85 and a few other wrecks. Glad to hear that the water around Cape Lookout is warmer.

Man that page is awesome! Good work! Thanks for sharing it. Hopefully we won't need it but good to know if the weather doesn't cooperate the day isn't a total loss.
