Any recommendations for a dive shop in Punta Cana or Cap Cana Dominican Republic. Looking to complete open water dives on honeymoon in DR.

Thanks!

Not too much in the way of Dive Ops in Punta Cana other than the ones that work directly from the hotels.

The best diving is on the south coast in the La Romana/Bayahibe area and DRSharky would be the one to dive with down there. It's around a 90 minute drive but WELL worth the trip.

My local ski club (yep, a ski club) is contemplating a trip to Punta Cana and I'm in charge of finding dive operations there. I understand the diving can be a little rough at Punta Cana proper due to the confluence of the ocean and the Caribbean. Are all the best dive sites to the south and west of Punta Cana? Would they be suitable for basic OW divers? Are there strong currents/high seas that would intimidate the less-experienced? How is the reef system down there?

Thanks for your answers.

I was in Punta Cana last January. There was some decent diving on the reef in front of the hotels...maximum 40' deep. There is also a nice wreck (the Astron) but the seas have to be very calm before the dive ops will take you out there. The best diving in the DR is on the south coast in the Bayahibe/La Romana area.

You can book a day long excursion from your hotel to Catalina Island (on the south coast) and dive a really nice wall (100' depth or more) followed by a shallower dive on a reef called "The Aquarium".

There is very little current on most of the dives and almost all the diving is suitable for new divers.

Thanks Dh for that reply. Sounds like we'll have to do some diving on that trip.
