Hi all, my kids and I will be in the Los Angeles area for a week starting July 26th. The kids don't dive, but I'd like to try Southern California's best shore dive. Anyone have advise on where I should go, and should I bring my drysuit or would I be the only fool dressed for the Artic on a California beach?
Cheers, Andrew.

Catalina, Casino Point is probably your best bet. Plenty to do for your kids. Check out the sticky in this forum. Some people use Drysuit here, but 7mm is probably enough for you in the summer.

Sandeaters has good information on beach diving LA.

Depending on where you are staying, you should be able to find a good dive. White's Point is good for central LA, so is Marineland. If your more Orange Countyish, Laguna beach has a some good sites.

shaws cove, laguna beach is one of the nicest shore dives around, but you wont get below 45' unless you bring a shovel, if that matters to you.

if you can make it to catalina there's better diving to be done than off the shore here.

i normally dive a drysuit year round here, but u canucks may be made of heartier stuff.

temps can be as low as 50 at depth even in the summer or as high as 64+ so it really depends on the day and you...

Thanks for the replies. I think my best bet will be to hook up with one of the active dive clubs in the area on August 2nd or 3rd.
