I ditto gerard above. I usually find it easier to locate the material loop that the string runs through since it's always in the same place and then encircle the string and down to the plastic ball in one movement.

Although you have my permission to skip the first part of instruction 6 ;)

Then you could go one step further and replace the cave line with something stronger, like stainless cable.

And route it to a convenient place in the front of your BC.

Hey, I got an idea, attach it to your inflator, so you always know where it is!

You've got me thinking about my Dive Rite, as I can always find the dump valve, but the string is tough to find with 5mm gloves, and for some reason (which I think I understand now) I can never find the pull knob. So these knobs float, do they? I bet mine is hidden in the fold of my Rec Wing most times.

My idea, now, is to shorten the dump string enough that when I find the dump with my hand I should be able to feel the knob somewhere around the outer circumference of the valve. This seems that it would put it -right there-. I can't wait to try this out. Correct me if I'm being stroketastic, or am wrong, but the string does not need to be as long as it comes from the factory, does it?

Awesome.
