Okay, I'm kind of a luddite when it comes to technology, but I'm trying to set up my e-m5 camera to use the fn1 button for focus. However, when I set it and press the button nothing happens. And not just focus, I also tried magnify and again nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong or is the camera not operating correctly?

Try:
Custom A4 (AEL/AFL):
S-AF Mode 3
C-AF Mode 3 or Mode 4
MF Mode 3

Custom B1 (Button Function):
Fn1: AEL/AFL

Personally, I prefer to have S-AF and C-AF on the half press shutter button and MF on the Fn1 button, at least topside. With Fn2 mapped to MF and Rec mapped to magnify preview, this gives me the flexibility I need even if the Fn1 is too small and awkwardly placed to work as well as the AF-ON button on my Nikon D300, ergonomically speaking. My setup is thus:

Custom A4 (AEL/AFL):
S-AF Mode 2
C-AF Mode 2
MF Mode 3

Custom B1 (Button Function):
Fn1: AEL/AFL
Fn2: MF
Rec: Magnify preview

When my camera is set up like this, MF mode mimics my Nikon D300 with focus on the AF-ON button and an AFS lens mounted (button focus, freely override the AF by just grabbing the focus ring) while S-AF and C-AF mimic the standard setup with focus on half-press shutter button. I can quickly switch between AF mode and MF mode by pressing the Fn2 button, and I can just as quickly magnify my viewfinder picture for precise MF. Also, since I'm used to both a focus button and an AFL button on the back of my dSLR while there's only one mappable button on the back of the E-M5, I can quickly select which of those two functions is the most important to me in a given situation and should be on the back button of my E-M5.

Disclaimer: Setup subject to changes. I got my E-M5 quite recently and I'm still tweaking my settings. :coffee:

Thanks Storker, that seems to work!!
