My daughter is now 2, and we are just about to get back into it. I've only been a couple times since she was born, and even though I am aching to get back to diving, the time off with a new baby is so worth it! :)

Thanks everyone for your advices, I think I'll stick to snorkling for the time being.. :) Better safe than sorry as mentioned..

Hello Nemo75:

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

As others have mentioned, diving while pregnant is not really a good idea. The baby will absorb nitrogen just as the mother does, and bubbles could form or grow in the neural tissue. This is obviously a bad situation for development.

Many studies have been performed on animals, and the most recent with big animals [sheep] indicate that bubbles can and do form in the fetus.

There will not be studies on humans for many obvious reasons.

There was a study done a while back by DAN I think and it was determined that it is in no way safe to dive while pregnant. The fetus can absorb nitrogen but not off gas through breathing. Just not worth the risk.
Congrats BTW!

Your little diver needs mommie and I bet s/he will LOVE snorkeling with you for a few months! :)
