I'm no underwater photographer, but my wife is getting hooked. So, this may be a question in which my ignorance of the hobby will become evident.

I gave my wife a Canon A710 and she is reading everything she can about underwater photography. I would like to get her an underwater housing for her new camera, but have a question I can't find the answer to:

Does anyone know if you can add a strobe to the Canon Waterproof Underwater Housing Case WP-DC6 A710 IS? I have looked on Canon's website, and searched over a dozen different underwater housing dealers' websites but can't find an answer to this one.

I know you can add them to Ikelite and some of the other housing makers, but I'm specifically interested in comparing the Canon brand to the others out there. Thanks in advance.

Canon does not make a strobe, so you won't find anything that will mount directly to the Canon case.

You will need to get a tray or base to attach the camera housing and strobe to. Ikelite, Inon, Sea & Sea and Sealife are just a few that you can do that with.

There are some other recent threads on this board that will help.

Thanks JDCPA.

So, I guess a better question would have been for me to ask if you can mount a tray or base to the Canon housing. Sounds like you can. Thanks for your help.

Not to bring back a dead thread, but....

Any recommendations on strobes that would work well w/ the A710IS + Canon Housing. Specific strobe recommendations would be great. I don't see TTL happening, so what is the next best route?

I like the Inon range - small, powerful, versatile, take AA batteries, last forever on one set of batteries, easy, light weight...

Contact www.reefphoto.com for suggestions and prices. These guys are great - very knowledgable and enthusiastic in helping you find what will work best for YOU.

If you don't mind ordering from overseas, then try Yuzo at info@naturephoto.co.jp

Any opinion on a pair of Sealife SL960's and the Clear film to block out visible light from the internal strobe?

The Sea & Sea's are good, too.

I just like the Inon's better myself. Inon has the clear film thingy...I always used it on the Olympus 5050 - always forget when I am using the Canon A series LOL

Oops, sealife...not my favourite. MHO is spend the money...

Yes... I'd love to spend the money. My wife has decided to get me an upgrade (yeah!), but if I go with Inon strobes I'm going to be diving without a camera to go with them, or I need to spend part of my budget on a good divorce lawyer.

The old Ikelite's are cheap (SS 200's), so are the Sealife strobes. I'm in the "better than internal, leave room for improvement approach" - I can get a pair of SL960's for >30% less than a single Inon. :)

Besides... call me weird, but I like symmetry
