Cabo:
I really like the camera and the underwater case. It is easy to use underwater. I would like the LCD to be bigger to make sure I got the focus correct and the batteries to last longer but those are my only 2 complaints.

Here's some samples. All of the underwater shots are with the S400 & DC800 case.

I also use the YS-DX25 strobe.

Hey Cabo, great pictures! I have a Canon S-400 and have just ordered the UW case. (I have been using an Iklite Auto 35.) I was wondering about the YS-DX25 strobe you mentioned. Who makes it and how does it hook up and work with the setup? Is it really needed? Cost?

to h2omammal,i also have an a40 w/uw case.tell me how you attached the light cannon.i have a ukd8 lite i'd like to use.also about the filters, where can they be purchased? thanks,bn

h2omammal:
So far, I've never experienced a fogging problem with the Canon WPDC200 case and A40 camera setup. Most dives are 60-80 minutes in 50-55 df sea water and the camera stays on most of the dive.

All I've done is to be sure a small silicone antimoisture packet (such as those packed with nearly all electronic devices before shipping) is tucked into the case with the camera.

Good luck! Let us know how the job and subsequent camera equipment purchase goes.

Thanks much. First interview went fine. Hope to get a second one soon. Let you know soon about the camera.

EliteDetail:
anyone ever have any experiance with these cases......

I HAVE A CANON S230 AND HAVE USED THIS CASE FOR A YEAR AND A HALF WITH NO PROBLEMS AT ALL....UNTIL RECENTLY. I RUINED MY CAMERA WHEN I LATCHED THE CASE WITH A CORD FROM THE STRAP CAUGHT IN THE LATCH. NOT MUCH WATER GOT IN BUT ENOUGHT TO MAKE THE LCD DISPLAY GO WHITE. I NEVER REPLACED THE O RING AND ADDED FRESH SILICONE EVERY COUPLE OF USES. I THINK ENOUGH OF CANON'S CASES TO ORDER ONE WITH MY NEW S400.

How often do you guys recommend applying the grease to the rubber seal and how often do you apply the antifog solution? I am going to Tahiti/Bora Bora/Moorea in May and will using the WP-DC600 with my S230.

..is on the left side of the tray. The handle supports the arm and is held by the left hand. Right hand is used to operate camera.

You can go http://www.ikelite.com/web_pages/opt10dlx.html and find a photo of the tray and an arm setup (tray part number is 9523.01)

I have the WPDC200 housing instead of the Ikelite housing, and I use a 6" quick release extension that fits into the handle (instead of the long arms). This allows me to quickly remove the light canon from the tray/handle setup for unusual lighting requirements.

I'll send a photo of my setup tonight if you'd like.

I am starting to get into U/W photography. Not to win awards mind you but just because I want to bring pictures up to show friends and family. I have been taking pictures now for 3 months with a Canon S45 and WP-DC300 case. I need to buy a new light and am taking this opportunity to copy your setup with the light canon. A couple of questions:

1. What are these two parts called? The ball that goes on top of the handle and the unit that keeps the two balls together and lets them pivot.

2. Are these all I need? tray, arm, adaptor for light canon and the two parts in number 1?

Thanks so much.

Nice, nice shots Kenman.. Tell us all a story about that Tiger Shark.. How was your heartrate at the time?

Hi Partridge,

The adapter that attaches to your Light Canon is made by
Gates and I believe the part number is AD-UK. It has a one
inch ball, so the arm you attach it to will also need to have
a one inch ball.

The adapter and arm balls are connected using a one inch ball
clamp. The arm attaches to your tray or tray handle as does
your housing.

So, the assembly contains:

(a) the housed camera, mounted on a
(b) tray, to which is also mounted a
(c) handle, onto which is mounted a
(d) arm, which connects to the
(e) Light Canon Adapter with an
(f) ball clamp

Happy shooting!

Thank you very much H2Omammal. My dad is on his way to the states and I'm just sending the money. He will be in LA and Oregon so I'm sure there are quite a few shops that can sell him a setup like this.

BTW, I really like how your setup does not have a full arm on it, just a stub that fits on the top of the handle. Makes it so much more convenient to lug around especially in a current.

String:
Ive got the lower spec Canon Powershot A40 with the case which is rated to "100ft/30m" depth.

Ive used it down to 40m without problems. My only real complaint is the case/camera combo is very positively buoyant which is fine in case you drop it off a boat but a pain when diving as it keeps floating up above my head or in front of the mask on the clip/line. Nothing some plastecine wouldnt solve though.

Another possible gripe is there is no shroud making the display screen slightly hard to see underwater if there is bright ambient light. Not a problem where i dive though :)

Hi String. I have a Canon A620 with the Canon WP-DC90 UW case. The case came with a "LCD Monitor Hood," but I don't know if other Canon UW cases do. I did not order any of the Canon weights (WW-DC1) because they're pricey, and haven't used my setup underwater yet (topside photos are excellent), but am concerned about the bouyancy. Other than the Canon weights, any ideas on how to weight it down?

Regards to all -- Mach
