Canon S90 strobe advice

I know this should be in the strobe section but I thought I would see what the canon people think first.

i have a S90 with Canon housing, I have been using a Sola 500 photo light but wish to upgrade to a strobe soon.

My my plan is to at some point upgrade to a G16 or similar but would light to be able to use the same lighting, any advice on which strobe would work well for each? With the S90 stuff being discontinued the idea of upgrading my housing seems a bit silly.
