I'm still learning the underwater water photography thing. Lots of trial and error. Have to now look for a new dive buddy cause my girlfriend is totally fed up with me sitting at one place for 10 minutes trying to get the perfect shot.

Im using a Canon S80 in a Canon case, Sea and Sea YS25DX strobe, Fisheye HD20DX video light. Most of the pics were taken at shutter 1/100, F8 or F5.6, ISO 100, WB at auto. Macro with video light and everything else with strobe.

Still trying to figure out how to get the deep blue when shooting at something with no backdrop. Any suggestions.

Nice photos!

Your background water colour is controlled by your shutter speed. Higher shutters give darker blues or black. Best results will be with your strobe, not video light, providing the light for your subject and upping the shutter speed to get deeper richer backgrounds.

so what do you suggest when taking a picture into the deep blue.

higher or lower shutter.

If you want a lot of light, go for a lower shutter speed and if you want it black go for a very high shutter speed. For waterscape shots I use f/5.6 or 6.3 but it might be different for your camera. Shutter speed I go with 1/80th to 1/100th but it varies. I'm still learning and playing around.

Nice pics, Shell! I'm sure you'll love the S80, try to get to more about your camera and you'll be amazed by the it. By the way, thanks for sharing!

HIgh shutter. When I shoot my compacts with a strobe I shoot about 1/800 a lot of times. 1/400 at least to get a good blue, but mostly higher than that.

I almost never drop below 1/125 with or without a strobe.
