Would be very interested in people's opinions of upgrading from my existing S400 and YS25DX to the new Canon S70 with Canon housing and the new Inon D-2000 strobe (when it is released)

To my mind this would give me considerably better manual control, underwater white balance preconfigured (although how good is it), high megapixels (do I really need it) and a significantly more powerful and sophisticated strobe....all without the cost of going dSLR and still nice and compact.

Any thoughts much appreciated...

Thanks

I am also thinking of upgrading to the S60/S70. Depending on the price difference you may want to think about the S60 as 5MP is enough and there is no other difference between these cams (besides color).

I think it will make a great upgrade from the S400 as you can now be much more creative with your shots. You can also shoot RAW and have a better wide end (all important for UW). Take the preset WB with a grain of salt.

That new Strobe looks great and will sell well. A perfect partner for the S60/S70, you'll just have to wait a bit though. The strobe has not been released yet and neither has a lens mount AD adaptor for the DC40 case.

Hi I am new to diving in the last 4 years. I just bought my s70 still learning how to use it still and have just received my WP-DC40 case. I am pretty excited to try it out. My question is with the underwater mode in the camera should I still be using the raw data?

Cheers

There was a previous comment in another thread to the effect that there probably won't be any add-on lenses available for the S-70 with WP-DC40 housing (near end of the zoom is too wide). If true, that would nix it for me. So, if you don't imagine ever needing lenses for it then it should be OK. I have an S-30 but if I were to upgrade to another middle range Canon-houseable camera it would be the A-90 or whatever it is now in the A-series.
