Hi everyone,

A few questions if you don't mind:

1) I've ordered the UW housing for the Canon PowerShot S500 (WP-DC800) and I'm trying to figure out what all I need in terms of strobes, cables, etc. What strobes and accessories do y'all recommend that will work with this camera / housing?

2) How the heck do I set this camera to take RAW images instead of JPG?

3) Why do some movies I take with the camera play fine on my PC and others don't? I don't recall changing settings between movies, but some play fine and others (taken minutes later) don't. What gives? :)

I just bought the same housing (with my S410) and was going to post the same questions. I posted a few pictures I took without the strobe in the gallery section. It did pretty well but only a few photos had the lighting just right. The strobe is a must to consistently take well-lit photos
 
Hi,

I have the S500 and the WP-DC800. I've used it on 4 trips to Cozumel. I've never used anything but the internal flash and have had wonderful results. My biggest tip...make sure the macro mode if you want to be in the auto mode. If you want to be in Manual Mode it will give you a little box in the center to use for what you want to be focused on....you can also put on the macro mode in manual. My flash goes off on every pic that way. One other tip...when you think you are close enough to your subject...GET CLOSER YET!!! Not sure what to tell you on the videos. Mine have always downloaded to my computer and played without problem.

1. i do not have a strobe but know of some people who have the sea and sea generic that works quite well with the S series cameras. I kind of depends if you think you will be moving on to bigger and better cameras or not. (i have a S400 and just use the flash in tropical waters on vacation).

2. Tough luck - JPG only.

3. Can't help you there, never had any problems and don't take many movies because of the low res.

Yeah, I think I might upgrade the camera in the next few months, but I think I found a strobe with a flash sensor (S&S Reefmaster SL960) that might work for this one, and the next one.

Yeah, pfft...what the heck?! My last Canon did RAW...sucks this one won't.

Yep, the movies on these camera stink, but they're nice in a pinch when you don't have a camcorder, etc. ;)
