Soggy........ where did you find that link. I can't find it anywhere on the site. But, the link definitely works.

Do you have the link to Ike's new S80 housing?

I went to Ikelite's site, then clicked on Digital Camera Housings, then Canon, then scrolled down to S2 IS and clicked on the link. The S80 is right below it.

I also have an S1 IS and was contemplating getting the underwater housing. I really like the camera for land shots so I'm not looking to upgrade. Can anyone suggest a relatively inexpensive (as far as strobes go) that would work well with the housing and camera. Keep in mind this will be my first attempt at underwater photography so I can't justify spending an extremely large sum of money on it just yet. Thanks for the help.

Strobes for the S1, huh? I just went through that nightmare. There are none that will talk to the camera - the camera doesn't have a connection for that.

That said, there are some strobes, like the Sea&Sea YS-90DX, that are supposed to be sort of "self-TTL", judging for themselves how much light is the right amount. At least I think that's what they do. There might be some Ike strobes or Inon that do the same thing. That's all I know really - I had a horrible 3 dives trying to shoot stills with the S1 - went back to video mode with converted light cannons used as video lights. MUCH easier and more fun! (I"m saving still photos for the dSLR whenever I get around to getting the housing for that.) Good luck!

Edited to add: Sea & Sea has a very good information line - you can email them at Seaandsea@tusa.com, they are very technical. Ask for Brad - very knowledgeable guy, gave me alot more info than my local camera shop. And, Brad isn't trying to sell you anything, so you can be sure you're getting the real answer! (Been burned.)

Anyway, have fun with teh S1, the canon housing for it is great, and I highly recommend getting a 1gig card and trying video mode. ;-)

I'm using a fairly inexpensive strobe. The SunPak G-Flash which works pretty ok. It's triggered by the camera's internal flash via a fibre optic cable. Output manually controlled. It's really pretty decent, but of course, if you're thinking of upgrading in future, you'll probably need something more powerful.
