I guess this is two questions:

I have been shooting the G5 with Ikelite housing, DS 125 with EV Controller only triggered by the camera's internal flash. It seems that the flash occurs too late and does not illuminate the photos. In frustration I bought a sync cord but cannot get the Strobe to fire at all now. I have returned the Strobe numerous time for repair but I want to make sure I have set up right before I send it back again. Is anyone really familiar with this set up and can offer advice (except to buy a whole new set-up, ain't happening right now)

Thank you!

I do not have the g5 camera but am familiar with ike product. The sync cord you have,is it a digital sync cord? There is a difference with a standard cord vs digital cord(digital usually has a blue band on cord)..Is the camera set up for external strobe use?Is the hot shoe in properly(there may be a indicator on the attachment showing which way the gizmo fits into the cameras hot shoe). How old is the strobe-did you buy it new?If it is an older one you may have to have it upgraded, you can check on it on ike web site and match serial numbers.Good choice to go with a sync cord vs ev controller. If you use ev controller check camera setting that it is on slave,if that setting is available, that may work the sync with ev controller problem out.

THe sync cord has the blue band.

The hot shoe only fits one way and I believe it is properly done.

I did buy the strobe new 3 years ago and it has been sent back for repair after almost each dive trip. Ikelite has been very good at fixing it.

Now that I look it it appears as though there is some melting on the strobe where the battery meets is. I am going to email a photo of it to Ikelite. The strobe isn't even getting a ready light. I think this mystery is solved.

The serial number of the sync cord matches that of the one on Ike's web site.

The Ike Website says to set my camera to manual exposure 100 and aperature of 5.6 which I did.

I think it a problem with the strobe, I sent an email to Ike. It is not even firing with EV Controller and I am not getting a ready light or that charged sound when I turn the flash on.

sounds like a short somewhere causing the plastic to melt..Sending it back after every trip sounds bad..Only sent mine in 1 time for an upgrade..
