Any advice on getting a Canon G16 with a WP-DC52 housing (internal Flash only) set up for diving. It took me a long time to fine tune the G10 and I don't want to waste my next trip trying to learning the obvious. On the G10 there was an issue with leaving the digital zoom on while using Macro and a lot of little fine tunings. Any help is appreciated!

if you go to Ikelite website, download the manual for their housing for the G16. It has a section with recommended underwater settings. You can store those in your Custom preset.

Thanks for the info, I'll try it.

I am very interested in this thread - thanks for posting!

Canon G16 underwater guide to settings, housings, wet lenses | Bluewater Photo & Video

I thought this was useful. Santa gaves us a bunch of amazon cards so we just ordered a g16 that will arrive on Monday. We are excited but starting to think about accessories. Hubs has a twin sola 2000 setup for the gopro, and we are trying to figure out about lenses/lighting/filters before our upcoming trip to the Philippines for the g16. Sounds like the new YS-03 setup isnt the best choice as there is no TTL in manual mode for the g16. Trying to see if we can budget for the YS-01 or just save up for the next trip and spring for the D1 or an Inon and use the twin video with a red filter for this trip. I think we are pretty set on the fantasea housing due to the features available at the price point.

I'd love to know your setup with the G10. I'm still fine tuning and any pointers would be appreciated

The G16 is an evolution of the G10 (not a revolution) so choosing similar settings should work. What settings did you settle on for your G10? They are likely a good starting point for the G16.

I just finished my first trip with a G16. I mostly used in in manual mode for close macro work with external strobes and a Subsee +10 magnifier lens. With the Subsee lens I used maximum optical zoom. I set shutter to 1/1000 and aperture F8 to eliminate ambient light. I also ended up turning on the Neutral Density filter as I was getting over exposed shots at my lowest strobe power settings.

I also did a few shallow wide-ish angle shots in Av mode with underwater white balance and found that I needed to under expose up to -2.
