Hi all,

I am currently using the G11 with the Canon housing.

My intention was to add on strobes using the Canon housing, but I am concerned with the adaptors available for it i.e. wide angle & macro lenses. Can anyone offer any advise on this please?

Another alternative, is to purchase the Patima housing, but there are limitations as to the wide angle/fish eye lenses, as in if it gives an optimum fish eye effect or a 'flat' effect.. then if so, does it not defy the purpose of the lense? I am very new with additional accessories, as I've been shooting with an S80 and previously the Ixus 400.. and the S80 has worked marvelously for me.

As for strobes, I am looking for compact strobes, Inon seems to be the best bet at the moment, considering if I should get the S2000 and the effectiveness of it with wide angle shots..

There is a recent shot using from the G11 with Canon's housing: Attached.

Kindly advise..

Hey, Im looking at the same thing. I have a G11, no housing yet but I think I will get the Canon one. The inon S-2000 sounds like the best bet for a compact strobe and i was wondering if the D4 mounting kit works with the g11 canon housing. " INON S-2000 Strobe and Grip Base D4 Set for Compact Digital Housing" I found a wide angle lens for t Canon housing as well "Fisheye FIX Wide Air Lens for Canon G10 & G11 (WP-DC28 & WP-DC34 housings)" I am planning on doing dives of 100' and think I will need a strobe.

Has anyone tried one of the 10Bar housings?

I saw one at the shop and they look substantially nice for the price. They've recently introduced one for the G11.

Patima housing for the G11 is probably a very nice option.

Maybe an excellent choice for macro with wet lenses but I d like to see some results with WA.

I really want to see a review of this beautiful housing.

I would hate to mis-inform anyone, so I can't speak about the Patima G11 Housing. However, I have been using the Patima G9 Housing for the past couple of years, and I can comment on that.

I have mine setup with dual Inon Z-240 strobes and the Inon UWL-100 Lens w/ the Inon Semi-Fisheye Dome.

My camera/housing/lens configuration gives me approx. 130 degrees FOV when shooting wide angle. I have been very satisfied with the results I've gotten. Please, feel free to look at some of the sample pictures stored in my photo gallery, and you'll get an idea of my results.

However, keep in mind that the G9 has a 35mm lens and the G11 comes with a 28mm lens, and I can't tell you how that will affect your pictures with the Patima Housing. Also, the Patima G9's close-up port allows for the addition of close-up lenses and I don't believe the G11 housing allows that.

I do like my Patima Housing Design, it fits very comfortably in my hand, but it is a very heavy housing, especially after adding the Inon lens. I have added several floatation devices to the arms, but it's still heavy.

My suggestion, once you get some feedback online, definitely check with your speciality underwater photography store, and get their advice, because they are the experts. I'm fortunate, I live very close to Reef Photo (Reef Photo & Video!, The Underwater Photo Pros), so I rely on their advice for everything. If you're not sure who to contact, I would check with them, as they carry most of the major brands and are usually happy to help.

Good luck!

Eazy,

Them 2 pics were taken with the G11 in the Canon housing, no strobes. I have priced the S2000 (it's actually quite attractive, small strobes..) The thing is.. I personally think with whatever limited knowledge i have.. the small strobes will never compare to a more powerful one in terms of WA photos.

However, a nice little strobe setup is recommended for the G11, as the built in flash can get really annoying.. I'm always flipping my cam at all angles just to get the flash in the right place, that's if.. it's ever right.

Not that I have any straight up advice, but Sea & Sea has a new compact strobe, the YS-01(just google it), its specs go head to head with the Inon S-2000.

I myself have been eyeing the S-2000 for almost a year, then along came this new YS-01 with a target light and most of all, its cheaper!!! :)
