Was thinking of buying a digital rebel 300D and was wondering if anyone has used this camera underwater. If so, would you recommend this camera and what would be the best underwater housing for it?

Thanks,

Bill

i've been using the digital rebel underwater. i've got it in the aquatica housing with both ports, the 10-22 WA lens, the 100mm macro lens, and a pair of inon strobes. be sure you are aware of how much these things cost to really use them underwater. the digital rebel which retails for $650 is going to end up costing you at least $4k to get it underwater with strobes. all of the photos in my palau gallery were taken with the setup i listed above. i have really enjoyed using it as an entry level slr.

Wow, 4K!!!! Hmmmmm, a lot of cash. Thanks for your input.

Hammer:

I was the first kid on the block to get a 300D when Canon first released it. I love the camera. I balked at the price of converting it to UW use, but I am about to take the plunge. Like cold water, it takes getting used to the shock.

Lee:

I am looking at buying the 10-22. Does the port you use let you zoom underwater? If you had $$ would you still buy the 100mm for macro or would you try something else?

I've been using the 300D with a Sea & Sea housing and dual YS-120 strobes for about a year and love the setup. As mentioned above, it ain't cheap! Check out representative photos on my website (www.debersole.com)

Impressive shots, Doug. That's Jim Abernathy, isn't it? Haven't been down that way since the mid 90's...gotta get back.

scubabob, I use the 10-22 lens with the 8-inch dome port and there is a focus gear made for that lens. the 100 mm lens has a steap learning curve which i am yet to master. In all honesty, was too small for places like palau and I think i would have been better off with a 60mm but for northern ca diving the 100mm should do just fine once i get about 15 more dives with that lens.
