I'm using an A720 in an Ikelite case with an Inon Strobe. It's an acceptable set-up for my photo needs (amateur photos to email to friends & family). Do you have a specific question?

I've been using an A720IS since it first came out. I like the camera, and it takes what I think are pretty good pic's wet and dry. I use the WP-DC16 housing, with the only issue being that the flash is partly blocked by the housing, resulting in a dark lower-right in too many pic's. I think this is a common problem with the small size of p&s cams & built-in flash. I'm adding a strobe for my trip in 3 weeks, and I hope it's worth the $$ and bulk, as I really like the freedom of the small housing. Yes, it has full manual control, which is great.
The pic's in my gallery from the last couple years are with that setup- here a a couple.

Very nice pictures CSR-3. Especially since you weren't using an external strobe! I have an Ikelite case & not the Canon but, before I added a strobe, I used a diffuser with some success at taming that shadow you mentioned. I had your exact concerns about bulk & $$. IMHO it was well worth it! I'm sure you'll feel the same.

I have a A720-IS and I was wondering if it's worth getting the u/w housing and add the macro lens that's offered? Which strobe do you add to the case? And would the flash diffuser that's offered on some u/w housings minimize the shadowing?

I like the A720. I think it shoots great topside pictures.

Anyone used the Canon A720 digital and u/w housing? Comments?

Tons(EDIT: well make that Lots) here are(I have the A570 with Canon housing & almost bought the 720 in '07--was torn between the 2)---do an above search or just scroll down the Canon corner a few pages & you will find LOTS of info & comments on the 2 cameras(they are very similar)

I used the 720 in an Ikelite case & the flash diffuser that clamps on to the case for about a year and was pleased with the results. I resisted adding a strobe because I didn't want photography to dominate my UW activity. However, curiosity led me to look at small strobes & I tried an Inon S-2000 Strobe. It was more $'s than I wanted to spend, but I immediately noticed a large improvement in image quality, especially below 25 feet, and I am glad I added the strobe. I still have a lot to learn about UW photography but, the compact size of the Inon works well for me & it provides plenty of light for my needs. Sorry, but I don't have any experience with the additional macro lens.

Adding a strobe to the A720IS in the ikelite housing gave a big improvement.
When using the external strobe you have to block the flash of the camera by replacing the deflector. Both came with the housing.

I do not know if the Ike housing is still for sale.
In the first link below are some of my pictures.
