String:
Its very positive without a weight, good for snorkelling but a pain for diving, keeps floating above your head/getting tangled etc.

I'd get the weight (or make one).

Any tips on how to make a weight? I'll be using my new camera and housing for the first time in a week. I can't wait!!

Its a standard tripod mount size screw on the bottom of the housing so get the desired screw size and either melt some lead/find something else heavy to attach to the other end of it.

Its also worth getting a small silica gel sachet to put in the case.

The camera is not that bouyant... While diving it should be in your hands ready to take a shot! You want your camera slightly bouyant so that if you had to jettison it in an emergency it will float to the surface and not sink into the abyss.

Just my 2 penies worth

Au contraire, mi amigo :)

my two centavos suggests slightly negative, so:

If it does accidentally slip away, you don't have to chase after it and risk DCS (safer to quickly swim down than up)

If you're on the bottom and you wish to rearrange your gear, you can safely set it down and it won't swim away.

The added weight (however minimal) in front helps maintain horizontal trim (ymmv)

It doesn't keep whacking you in the face :)

And if it does accidentally sink to the abyss, or float away, just call DEPP or DAN or your favorite insurance provider........

I'm sure there are other pros and cons......bottom line what feels good to the diver.......

b

btw, if jettisoned or accidentally slips away in any current, will it be worth chasing after on the surface? It will have a pretty good head start if you are careful with your ascent rate..........and you'll have to swim back through whatever conditions are present..........

I would not worry about the faster cards.. they are primarily for the upper end DSLRs.. I was looking for one to try and cut down shutter lag and it was the local Canon rep that told me not to bother.
