Anyone have any experience with the Canon 30D. Looking to buy one and would like to hear from someone who has used one. Also what type of housing are you using and strobe(s)?

Thanx, Larry

Well...I have its prototype the 20D and love it. I use the Ikelite housing and strobe and have had no problems with it.

Thanx Michael. If you ever get to Kauai look me up and we'll go diving. Larry 808.346.2146

Larry, where is the great diving on Kauai? Going to be there march 17-21. I am trying to come up with a camera to use while there, not sure i can justify the housing for my 20D yet...but I love the camera on the top side :)

Larry,

My Canon S80 recently flooded so I picked up the 30D around the holidays. As I have yet to purchase an underwater housing for it, I’m keen to follow this thread to see what recommendations you get.

The 30D is my first dSLR and so far I am very impressed with the performance. For topside shots, I’m mainly shooting with Canon’s EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM and EF 24-105 f/4L IS USM but I’m still undecided what lens to get for U/W. I also have Canon’s 2x teleconverter but I’m not completely happy with that at this point but it is certainly a more reasonable solution than buying Canon’s wonderful 500mm L lens that I really want…

Keeping in mind that I’m an amateur shooter with only two months dSLR experience under my shutter finger, here are a few shots that I’ve taken with it since I’ve had if the past few months. With the exception of the first shot, all the rest have the 2.0x teleconverter attached to the 70 - 200mm lens. While the teleconverter diminishes the clarity of the L lens as well as causes the lose of 2 f stops, the images came out OK.

Great shots! Here is a shot using a poloroid filter, diffused flash and my Canon 20D in an Ikelite housing and strobe in limited vis (about 15 feet). I think it turned out ok...
