I agree with not skimping on a can light. If I were buying a new light for shear brightness id go HID> LED is a progressing techology. Though not a can light the new LED UK light canon uses LEDs and pushes something like 800 lumens. I think it gives a good indication of where the technology is headed in the future.

When you're down deep in a dark place, looking for your teammate or the way back/out the last thing you want in your kit is a cheap light.

Personally I use a Salvo Havoc 21W HID and 2 3 cell Rat backup lights. As hot as I am to try new technology I'm going to let the LED world shake itself out a bit before I go that route. The Havoc is like carrying your own portable sun with you. In wrecks it's great for brightening things up. I enjoy seeing someone pointing something out with their light then swinging my Salvo around to illuminate it. The Salvo just washes out whatever light was there before and brings the subject to life with far more vivid colors than were previously exposed. I'd get a minimum 21W light and brighter if you can afford it.

Even the Rat backup lights are incredibly bright. They too can drown out a lot of conventional larger lights. The Rats use LED technology which is great for backup lights at this point in the game.

Salvo service is also very good. I have only needed information so far (the gear works perfectly) and I was answered professionally in a timely manner.

BTW, Salvo has improved the connector for their Havoc lights making the canister even more impervious to flooding. All in all I highly recommend their product!
