Hi Everyone,

I am planning a trip to Bali this holy week. Now, I have to stay in Candi Dasa due to limitations with my hotel time sharing. How far away is this to Nusa Penida? How long by boat? Is there a good dive shop near Candi Dasa that would offer this kind of trip?

Thanks very much.

Because of the exposed shoreline in Candidasa and the difficulty of getting in the boat when the weather is rough almost everyone dives from Padang Bai.

It is a quick commute (Candidasa to Padang Bai) and the boat ride is much shorter (to Nusa Penida) from Padang Bai. Probably 45 minutes from Padang Bai to the near side of Nusa Penida.

There is plenty of lodging in Padang Bai and Candidasa. Candidasa does have a lovely setting on the coast but all the beach has washed away and there are just seawalls. Still, it is not a bad place to visit but not a good base for diving.

Don't limit yourselves to Nusa Penida.

There are some neat caves in Tepekong and Mimping and Gili Biaha are also great dives.

During the mola mola season you can dive the far side of Penida but this is a bigger undertaking.

Please leave a little feedback on my forum when you get back. Thanks.

By the way there is a very easy but relaxing night dive in the Blue Lagoon where a number of jumbo Spanish Dancer nudibranchs can be found.

Candidasa is very near so it will be no problem to get back to Candidasa at night, but best to arrange the transport in advance. 50,000 rupiah should be more than enough (5.00 USD)

The Puri Rai is very nice
