I am going to be staying at the Royal Solaris which is aroun KM 15. I was wondering if anyone knows if there are any good operations to dive with around there. I know there are some good ones around KM5, but isnt it exspesive to go that far for 3 days of diving?? thanks I would def. appreciate the help and advice.

It depends. I would recommend Ben & Mayan Aqua Dive. You can contact him at benrmooney@yahoo.co.uk. You can arrange for door to door delivery for your dive trips and work out a dive schedule before arrival.

They usually take six or seven out. If you have good gas management, you can dive your computer when others have surfaced. Plenty to see on the reefs, try to get to the c58 wreck and to dive with the bull sharks if they are still around.

The bus ride through the hotel zone is very affordable. There is no need to limit yourself to operators within walking distance.

I could not recommend Ben more strongly. His service was impeccable, and even if he did not pick you up, it would still be well worth the cab fare.

Whats the difference between Cozumel and Cancun reef diving? Should I skip the Cancun reef and just do Cozumel?

not at all! cancun is well worth a 2 tanker, its under rated diving as we re next door to cozumel but if you avoid the big cattle boats you can find great dive sites!! cancun does not have the endless viz and coral formations like cozumel but it does have amazing marine life!!
i would much rather dive cancun reefs than the cozumel shallow sites so yes its worth a shot and for $77 with hotel pick ups inc. what do you have to lose??!!

Cancun diving is a lot different from Cozumel but still very good. Like others have said, I think you tend to see a lot more variety of marine life especially large schools of fish. C-58 is also a nice wreck to dive. Cozumel has more impressive reef formations however but I still like Cancun diving for the variety.

I have used Manta Divers twice before with Miguel and can also recommend his service highly. I think they're at KM 13 but they have moved shop a while ago so I might be thinking of the old location.

Also, the public bus is quick and extremely cheap. No need to limit yourself to certain places. A lot of shops will offer hotel pick-up and drop off.

Whichever dive op you choose I still think you will enjoy Cancun diving. Good luck.

Go with Ben Mooney @Mayan Aqua Dive.

My son and I had a great dive with him in March. Major points- not a cattle boat, very personal service, Great crew, van ride to the boat and the Biggest thing - Ben actually cares if you have a good time diving.

As Ben said, the Cancun reefs are very underrated. Plenty of marine life, nice slow drift dives....I enjoy them every year. I typically dive the same reefs when we're in Cancun and they never get old. Night dives are interesting as well. You don't have the topology changes as in Coz.

I dive with MAD when I'm in Cancun. Of course, this time I'm staying at VCI where Ben's shop is located, so I do not have to ride the bus.
