...Be aware of the lower luggage weight allowance on Mayair and the small carry-on size.
Bumping this old thread because I am weighing my options to get to Coz on a trip in February and am looking for updated info.
In my case, me and my wife will be coming in from Mexico City on a domestic flight (Interjet) scheduled to arrive in CUN at 5:15 pm. We *
will* have dive gear bags plus an average-size carry on, but I assume we won't have to clear customs or immigration in CUN (coming from Mexico City) so at least that should save us some time.
In the past, I've grabbed a
collectivo van for the leisurely drive to PcD, then took the ferry.
This time, I was toying with skipping the connection to PdC and the ferry, instead opting for the Mayair hop. Mayaair's posted schedule has flights at 4 pm, 6 pm and 8 pm. Assuming our inbound flight is on time, that woul leave just 45 minutes to connect to the 6 pm or a long wait for the 8 pm. Another option might be for me to catch an earlier flight from MEX, arriving at 2 pm, which would be timed well for the 4 pm Mayaair departure to CZM.
But tere's that luggage thing...I'm pretty sure our dive bags could make it under their 44 pound limit, but we each also have a medium-sized "backpack" style carry on. They list maximum carr-on bag dimensions as 10.6" x 14.5" x 17.7" (and a weight limit of 11 pounds). My carry-on
might just squeeze by (its long dimension is a bit more than 17.7") but my wife's would probably bust it. I'm not sure either of our carry-ons would be less than 11 pounds.
I know that carry-on dimensions are not always enforced, and carry-on weights usually are not. What are everyone's experiences with how strict Mayair is with carry-on dimensions and weights? I believe they all have to go under the seats in the cabin, and I suspect the space there is not at all flexible...
OTOH, we could just take the bus to PcD and the ferry, if the constraints of flying are too...um, constraining. Save the money and spend 2 hours getting there, or spend the money and get there fast...
Your input? Thanks.
