My travel agent called today. Mexicana is no longer offering service between Cancun and Coz. My tickets are cancelled, money is refunded. I'm locked into flying through Cancun because I'm on a corporate charter to Cancun.

Yeah, yeah, I know, take the ferry, blah, blah. But I'm a lazy slob and I'd much rather just fly, and there's no way I can drag both my gear AND my wife's gear for her. No way she's going to do it. :pity_part

Does any other airline offer service between Canun and Coz?

Thanks,

aa

AeroCaribe/AeroCozumel. The flight is only about 20 minutes and the last time I checked it was $60-$70 US depending on the season. However, watch out for last minute cancellations and overbooked flights.

Riviera Bus from Cancun airport to Playa $7 each.
Ferry to Coz $9 each.
Tips to airport porter and street porter in Playa to carry bags $5 each.
Not having to wait for plane that might be full or canceled---Priceless

Flying direct into Cozumel - maybe a couple hundred extra dollars
Not having to deal with the Cancun airport and having to somehow get myself to and from Cozumel, wasting valuable vacation time and stressing out - priceless

I feel for you, it is a pain on the return if your flight is in the morning. We are flying nonstop from Denver on a charter, I am spoiled now.

I guess that is where we are different. I stress a lot more about spending a "couple hundred extra dollars" than I do about spending a couple hours traveling via bus and ferry. Different priorities for different folks.

For me, the bus trip to Playa and the Ferry ride are part of the journey, part of the adventure.

If I could do the flight for about $60-70 I would probably do it, but every trip I have booked would have increased by at least $150 to fly to the island. I have seen better air fares, but only when I was "just looking" not when I was really booking.

Of course my buddy hated the taxi-ferry-bus routine at the end of his first and only trip. He was okay on the way there, but the return was tedious for him. Of course he makes 50% higher salary than I do.

Well, apart from me trying to be funny, one difference is that I am usually traveling with three women, and traveling light just isn't in the vocabulary. Not having to handle all that equipaje over and over again when changing modes of transportation is worth a lot to me. If I were traveling alone with minor luggage, I'd grab a cervesa fria, hop on the bus, and call it good.

Hmmm. Aerocaribe web site shows no flights between Cancun and Coz. Is there a U.S. agent for them that I can contact?

To answer the bottom line - as of April 4th (okay that date has been changed a couple of times, but about then ) ABSOLUTELY NO FLIGHTS by ANYBODY between Cancun & Coz..........at least until further notice, after all....it's Mexico, everthing is subject to change!!!!

Wow! I would imagine the two econonies are a bit put out by this turn of events. Pardon my ignorance of Mexican politics, but why would something like this happen?
