Heading to Royal Mayan resort next week. Any recommendations for diving in that area? I can book thru the resort (Thomas Moore), but thought I'd check for other recommendations as well.

Check with Ben and Jorge from Scorpio Divers.
While at the Mayan make sure that you go to the brunch. Great deal of food at a very good price. The happy hours at the Royals is also alot of fun. We were there this past August (party of 18 ) had a great time.

Enjoy your trip,

Jim Breslin

Agreed. I've never stayed at the Mayan, but I think it's the best of the "old" Royals. I've stayed at the Caribbean a couple of times and mostly at the Hotel Internationale. Save yourself some dough and book on-line. Unless they pick you up from the Hotel Internationale dock, there is no reason to pay Thomas More anything.

Talk to Ben and Jorge. You won't be sorry.

i dove with mayanaquadive they operate out of the royal cancun club international they provide round trip transportation no extra charge you can book through the hotel my friend stayed at the royal islander and booked with his room key it was the same price i think $71 bucks they picked him up and kept his gear in storage at the royal cancun so he did not have to lug his gear back and forth he dove all week I just dove 3 days
they have a nice dive boat large enough to take about 20 divers but they never take more than 12 usualy 6 to 8 small groups max botom time amazing diving great staff you will be happy to dive with mayanaquadive have a great trip

Last year I went diving with the outfit (name?) at the Royal Caribbean. We were there in April and I was not impressed with them. I am open water certified but a beginner and do not have many dives under my belt. There were 4 of us coming from the tri-royals and we were picked up in taxis and we went to a dive shop up at the point of Cancun.
The boat did not go to far from shore but ended up in 60 ft of water pretty quick. The waves were choppy but underwater it was nice. There was a bit of a current and our dive master was swimming very fast and everywhere. He was going against currents and it was not the nice slow pace I enjoy. We saw great coral and plenty of fish, many Baracuddas and parrotfish etc.

I would not reccomend the outfit at the Royal Caribbean.

Has anyone ever used Scuba Cancun??? There building is across from VCI(oldest royal resort) on the Lagoon side.
Thanx, tselios

Ben and Jorge from ScorpioDivers have a great following here on ScubaBoard. My wife and I always dive with Alvaro from AlwaysDiving. I don't believe it is possible to go wrong with either of these otufits.
