Cancun April 1-8

Hey, any SB'ers in Cancun this coming week? I've booked a couple of days (3 &5) with Ben Mooney and Mayanaquadives based on the favourable recommendations that I've read about his outfit. Should be fun even if it's only two days of diving (ie. this is a family trip, not a dive trip).

Sorry, can't make it. But you will have a great time with Ben. I've dove with them many years now and always great people and diving. Since this is a family event, check out Cancun Catamarans, Cancun Catamaran Tours, Cancun Sailing, Sailboats in Cancun, Yachts and Deep Sea Fishing Charters.. Another Brit, Alan, runs this and we are looking forward to doing the Isla Mujeres trip. Ask Ben, he can probably get you hooked up.

UUGHGHGH - I won't be in Cancun until 24 April - 1 May. I'm a singleton, so I'm always looking for dive buddies. I plan on diving with Ben also, so let me know how it goes. Where are you staying? We'll be staying at the Cancun Palace. Have a fantastic time!!!!!

How is the diving in cancun this time of the year? As in the next couple of weeks? My schedule magically cleared for the next two weeks and im aching to get into the water

Should be nice. I think the bull sharks are still plentiful, but just on the edge for whale sharks. I have to start scheduling my vacations earlier in the year....

Just got back from Cancun. Weather has been quite choppy the past couple of weeks. The port was closed for something like a week before I got there and close a couple of days while I was there.

Went diving on the 3rd (Wreck and reef). Large waves 4-5ft, stiff current and 86F at the surface. Down below, no current (weird), 79F, 60ft vis.. For the C-58, we dropped up current and was expecting a quick ride to the wreck, but ended up swimming the whole way. A couple of divers hit the min pressure and had to ascend with one of the DMs (LeAnn). The rest made a quick trip in and out of the C-58 and had to ascend. Next trip to a reef at 60ft. Nurse sharks, sting rays (a large southern) and couple of groupers in the wreck were the highlight.

Decided to get another specialty done with Ben and completed my drift diver specialty (just to see how things are done). Port was closed on the day and had to wait for the next day. Finished my specialty in the morning on a two-tank reef dive. Again, more rays and another shark.

I was determined to maximize my dive time on this family trip so, took Ben up on his offer to dive Manchones reef with some recently OW certifed divers and Ben did checkout dives. Shallow dive <30ft, 50-60ft vis, 79F. Lots of reef fish and got to see my first nudibranch...not that I'm always looking for them.

Not bad, 6 dives, 1 specialty in 1.5 days. Great time with Ben and his crew (Carlos, Jorge and Angel). Will go back with MAD next time I'm in Cancun.

Glad to hear you had a great time. I always do Manchones when I go down. When you start looking for nudibranches, Christmas Tree worms and such, the reef never grows old. There always seems to be something new on it.

Gotta say, drift diving is the only way to cruise, eh?!

Bullsharks? They hang around arrowsmith reef wich is a fishing point an hour and a half away or south of playa del carmen now, and bullshark season is almost over......whalesharks????? They come by may until september, bullshark season south of playa is almost over......and whalehshark season will not begin until plancton gets here in mid may or june.anyway i dove bullsharks a couple of months ago more info check out jason playacountryboy on this board and his videos, another great bullshark diver is eric vryolakas on this board..whalesharks and mantas will not be here until may or june.

on thursday the 9th I took 5 divers to playa to see bull sharks, first dive 5, second dive 9, amazing!
The water is still cool at 79f but it won't be long until they dissapear until late November.
That's a two tanker for your logbook!
