I'd venture that that was once part of a 1988 “2950“ first stage and now a formidable projectile and paperweight.
The convention had been to list the first digit as the year of manufacture. Those that I had newly purchased in late 1992 all possessed serial numbers which began with a "3" in misleading new-car-year fashion . . .
