Im wondering if anybody has travelled to the Caribeans alone and would suggest a great place to go where we could mix up great diving alo0ng with a fun night life!!!!

Marc

Cozumel - great diving, good nightlife and theres always Cancun near by.

Nassau- excellent diving, including sharks, DPV adventures, and Jame Bond movie set wrecks. Paradise Island with Atlantis casino and upscale clubs and bars as well as Nassau dance clubs and bars and Cable Beach clubs and casino. Easy to get to from the East coast.

Key West- OK maybe not as good diving as Cozumel, but the nightlife can be summed up in two words, Duval Street. You can see anything during the sunset celebration at Mallory Square or doing the "Duval Crawl".

Well, Coz does have great diving, and the night life is plenty good enough for me, but the true hearty partier might find it a little tame. Cancun rocks, or so I hear, but the diving pales in comparison.

Travel between the two is a bit strenuous and time consuming (it's about 40 miles away and across a 12 mile channel), and there's really no way to get back to Cozumel late at night from Cancun.

My advice is to pick which is more important to you and go where your particular choice of action is. Commuting between the two places is not very practical.

Just curious what most people would recommend Cozumel or cancun???

I defenitely want to do great diving and i am looking for decent bars to have fun at night!!

Appreciate your responses

If you are going to stay out late at night and drink heavily you need to stick with simple, shallow dives. Fatigue, dehydration, and hangovers don't belong on scuba at all, but especially not on more complex deeper dives like those you can find at Cozumel.

IMHO.:doctor:

It's a pretty young crowd, inexpensive dives/accommodations & friendly locals. Who knows, you may even see a whale shark? (I somehow managed to!) It's a small island comprised mostly of divers & you pretty much meet everyone within a few days ... just start off by catching the sunset at Coco Loco. Here's a link: http://www.utiladivecentre.com/aboututila/entertainment.htm

Though I don't drink very much, I still had a blast & met lots of people.

Have fun & safe diving!

Aruba ROCKS!!

You just need to be careful. We all know about dehydration, hangovers and poor rest. There are afternoon dive boats. The afternoon dives tend tpo be more shallow. Never-the-less, you still need to be rested.

is great diving.

Go with Cozumel.

Hang out at the gringo bar...Carlos N Charlies or Senor Frogs for your night life.....mass gringos up in there.

As far as your health goes...

Call your night as earliest as possible....start drinking water immediately after leaving and before bed and first thing when you wake up and throughout the day. Stay hydrated and take some Tylenol before going to bed to prevent the headache with a hangover.

If diving deep the next day I would plan on making your safety stops a little longer and really plan a solid multi-level dive.

Ohh yeah, dont go on the boat bragging about your night before either....the DM's might not let you dive.

Thats why I dive every other day, on vacation.

Stay in Playa del Carmen or in the Mayan Riviera. Then it's easy to ferry over to Coz f/ diving & easy to take a cab into Cancun to party, as well.

Coco Bongo in Cancun is a blast. Drinking, dancing, great music, bodyshots...you get the picture
