Great advice from everyone and I hear it loud and clear. One thing that I failed to mention is that my primary second stage is a FFM. This adds to the chaos of an OOA situation and so streamlining emergency procedures (which I practice regularly in the pool) is of the utmost importance. With the air2 I am doing a massive disservice to my buddy (and myself) and therefor I am convinced that I am in need of a proper octo rather than transfer the air3 over to my wing.

I really appreciate conversations like this, there is ALWAYS something new to learn or consider. Cheers everyone!

I'm struggling visualizing this ... but perhaps I have the right picture. You have a FFM and an Air2. What do you donate to an OOA buddy? Air2 is designed for you, not an OOA buddy. And I didn't think a FFM was donated. Perhaps this is my FFM ignorance.

No you've got it right, its a bad setup, just as I explained. Because I was taught from the beginning with an air2 when I switched to the FFM and did not immediately realize the impact on my setup. I now know I need to add an octo to my rig along with a nice long hose.

I have multiple DiveRite wings and an Atomic SS-1, which like the Scubapro Air-2 is in integrated octo-inflator. I've had this setup for several years, as have many others I know, and it works just fine. Before I got the SS-1, I had my old Air-2 on my wing and it worked just the same. Air-2 replaced because it was pretty much end of life

I have a scubapro air2 on a diverite rec exp wing. Works great. The pull dump on the diverite wing greatly simplifies a controlled ascent while breathing from the air2.

I'm not sure it would be a good choice with a full facemask though. You need to be able to donate your primary regulator when using an air2.

I agree with you and would probably try and get away with it if I didn't have the FFM sometimes. With a primary second stage that is not offerable to the diver in need I definitely need a nice octo with long hose.
