Can i Dive even if i'm asthmatic?

Hi Guys,
I didn't expect that a lot people would reply on my post. Thank you so much for all your support. I copied the tips and the informations that you shared with me. I also consulted a Doctor regarding my asthma and he told me to take a puff on my ventolin inhaler at least 30 minutes before the dive. I have to rest now coz my dive is going to be tomorrow. I will tell you about my dive experience tomorrow night, Phil time.

For the most part, diving with asthma is OK, so long as it is controlled. The only real asthmatic contraindication for diving anymore is if it is excersize induced. Even that should not necessarily rule you out if you're medicated and relaxed. There are still some places in the world where they say no if you indicate Asthma on a form, so just be aware of that... otherwise, get in the water and enjoy!

I have very mild asthma so during my medical, my doctor referred me to a specialist for a test that asthmatic divers must pass. It involved me sitting there with this mask/tube in my chops inhaling particulate salt water spray at different concentrations. It was pretty disgusting and a bit stingy on the lungs and after it I had these awful wet coughs for the rest of the day but somehow the test showed I was not bad enough not to dive and I passed. Expensive but worth it.

Hi Guys,
Thank you so much for all your support! I was nervous when they placed the BCD with the tank over my shoulder. I had to look for my Ventolin Inhaler, to make last puff before getting in the water. When I was going down, I had to equalize and it took me sometime to make my left ear pop. We dove in this fish sanctuary called Hilutungan and it was really amazing even if we only went down up to 5 meters. We brought some bread underwater and fed the fishes...blop!blop! beautiful colors and they weren't afraid to eat the bread out of our fingers... Finally, I saw Nemo. Hope you could come to Cebu, Philippines, I heard that they have good dive spots for pros...
At first I was afraid I was petrified.... I will survive! hehehe

This may be a dumb question, but would an inhaler work underwater? In particular, if you seal it into a plastic bag, and then when needed open the bag to expose the mouthpiece, remove your second-stage from mouth, put the inhaler in yuor mouth and blow on it to clear it of water, and then inhale a dose. Would that work? Do they make underwater inhalers?

I have seen (on the net) a regulator that includes a chamber to hold your inhaler!
